Meta is looking for a Director of Sound Design to lead the discipline and support a team of sound designers, audio producers, composers and design operations specialists working across Meta. The Director of Sound Design will be responsible for the strategy and execution of audio experiences across all of Meta’s apps, hardware and initiatives, including the metaverse. The ideal candidate will have strong fundamentals in organizational leadership; people management; sound design; studio management; experience elevating sound quality and efficacy in a data-informed product culture, and a passion for equalizing global access to our product experiences. Director of Sound Design Responsibilities

  • Support a team of Sound Designers, focusing on team engagement and fulfillment, facilitating career growth, and creating a supportive atmosphere of excellence and execution
  • Lead and develop a cohesive and strong management team
  • Set strategic direction for the Sound Design organization: Set a compelling vision of the future of Sound at Meta and link vision with action. Inspire enthusiasm towards and gain buy-in for the vision. Help the team understand how their work contributes to the organization’s overall goals. Leverages data to support arguments and creates strategies that link vision with action
  • Apply knowledge of domain, business, market, and industry to advance overall company goals
  • Work with Sound Design Managers, Directors, and Creative Operations to establish, encourage, and enforce best practices and strong performance across the team
  • In collaboration with the Sound Design Team leadership, set clear expectations and create a positive work environment based on support and accountability
  • Help manage resources and headcount against a wide, varied, and fast-evolving portfolio of projects
  • Ensure strategic partnerships are effective with Engineering, Design, and Product Management teams across Meta
  • Advocate for the role and value of sound across Meta and in the larger creative community
  • Understand the strengths and opportunities on the current team as it grows, and recruit new designers and actively participate in the hiring process
  • Build a diverse and inclusive environment across the team, model inclusive behaviors, and hold managers accountable
  • Foster a strong, collaborative design practice

Minimum Qualifications

  • 15+ years of professional sound design, including interaction (UX) sound, and sound implementation experience, focused on high-quality sonic experiences in real-time interactive products
  • 7+ years experience assembling and managing teams of creative and technical experts with specialties, including hiring and developing people managers
  • Knowledge in a wide scope of sound design domains including spatial sound design for AR, VR, and emerging mediums and platforms
  • Understanding of the impact sound design can have on people, brands, and product experiences
  • Demonstrated skill with strategic decision making and tactical prioritization
  • Experience in a fast-paced and quickly evolving environment
  • Knowledge of, and interest in, how culture and dynamics create teams

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with coding or advanced scripting for complex sound implementation
  • Familiarity with studio and location recording, editing, mixing, and mastering
  • Experience working with distributed teams
  • Experience establishing a Sound Design, or similar, team within an established organization
